What We're Drinking Now: 2004 Angelica Zapata Cabernet Franc

Despite being in the land of Malbec, we wanted to explore other varietals from Mendoza as well. During our tasting at the Park Hyatt in Buenos Aires, we were introduced to a 2006 Angelica Zapata Malbec so elegant and delicious, that we were inspired to try any and everything by this bodega we could find. Naturally, when we came across the 2004 Angelica Zapata Cabernet Franc, we snatched it up and opened it that night with dinner.

The meal was less than Argentine with fresh sautéed vegetables out-weighing meat, but the 2004 Angelica Zapata Cabernet Franc went perfectly and was the true highlight of the evening.

It was a dark brick, red color, with aromas of bing cherry and vanilla bursting out of the glass. Each sip slid across the palate like cashmere, yet lingered and left us wanting another taste. The beauty of this wine was that it was delicate enough to work with the lightly sautéed veggies, but had enough structure and spice to stand up to the Argentine beef we grilled as well.

All in all, it was a great compliment to the meal and became the center of much of the conversation throughout the evening. Unique, sultry and enticing, I can't recommend this wine enough!
