Figuring out what to pack was one of the hardest parts of the whole pre-departure experience. Since we are Vino Vagabonding, we had to make sure to bring clothes durable enough for non-stop travel, and also professional enough for our visits to wineries and chateaus. Without a return date, we also needed clothes for all seasons.     

We scoured the net for tips and packing suggestions from other travelers, and thought that Simon and Erin's packing list from "The Never Ending Voyage" was the best guideline.       

 Here's a list of what we ultimately brought with us to start our lives of vino, vagabonding and making a living on the road:     

Luggage:     

  • North Face backpack with expandable bottom for Britt
  • Kelty backpack for Jeff
  • "Big-ass blue bag" (Huge, very basic, travel bag on wheels)
  • 1 medium canvas travel shoulder bag
  • 1 large, foldable beach bag

   

Essentials:     

  • Passports and 1 copy (left other with family)
  • drivers licenses (safer to carry on a daily basis than PP)
  • money belt
  • debit and 2 credit cards
  • vaccination records
  • $200 cash to exchange directly at the airport for taxi and any unexpected fee/need/problem

  • 2 "club" shirts (leaving in Buenos Aires)
  • work out shorts
  • Icebreaker Merino wool long-sleeve
  • 3 thermal long sleeve shirts
  • Columbia Waterproof shell jacket with hood (stuffs into its pocket!)
  • 2 bras
  • 2 sports bras
  • 5 pairs underwear
  • 3 pair ankle socks
  • 2 wool hiking socks
  • waterproof hiking boots (Great for Patagonia and Mendoza)
  • tennis shoes
  • Teva river sandals
  • 3 pair flip-flops

  • Electric tooth brushes (luxury, but vital to keeping our mouths happy)
