What We're Drinking Now: 2007 Domaine Les Fouques Rouge
Red wine is not what comes to mind when you think of Côtes de Provence, typically it's rosé, rosé and more rosé! The French love it for its drinkability and lower alcohol means you can polish off a couple of bottles during lunch and head back to work with your motor skills somewhat intact.
Now we've seen how popular the bag in box concept is here in France, but for those who just can't part from glass bottles we found Domaine les Fouques to be one of the only places in Provence that offers half bottles. Now, you can have your bottle of rosé and a half bottle of this tasty rouge without falling over. In fact, we love to bring this wine for picnics!
This Syrah, Mourvedre and Cabernet Sauvignon blend is a perfect wine for any time as it has lush, dark berry fruit from the Syrah, deep purple color from the Mourvedre and supple tannins from the Cabernet Sauvignon to round out the flavors on the palate. We love this wine with tomato-based dishes or pizza but it would also go well with some prosciutto, chevre and a fresh-made baguette. Santé!
