What We're Drinking Now: Agusti Torello Mata 'Kripta'
Agusti Torello Mata 'Kripta' Gran Reserva
There's wine and then there's WINE! This particular producer, Agustí Torello Mata, is one of the finest producers of Cava that we have tasted yet. They claim to be about quality and refinement and they actually back it up. When we first tasted this wine, everything about it screamed opulence. Even the bottle, while not the most functional, was an homage to the amphoras that the Egyptians made their wine in.
The Kripta is like effervescent ambrosia. Dried toasty notes with overtones of honeysuckle and minerality, evoked divine intervention and the flavours of pineapples, lemon and smooth caramel made this wine perfectly balanced. Delicate, yet powerful in your mouth, the wine lingered long after the sip was swallowed and the tiny bubbles slowly faded away. It is a wine meant to be enjoyed alone or perhaps with a spread of freshly prepared sushi.
